MLB Rivalries, A-Rod Returning, Baseball Movies

Rivalries are a big part of sports. In baseball, certain rivalries mean more than others. For example, the Twins and Brewers have a big rivalry, but it really doesn’t mean much since the teams are in different leagues. On the other hand, the Yankees and Red Sox rivalry means quite a big since both teams are in the same division. This first article examines a couple rivalries and which will have a bigger impact on the division races this season.

Yankees Struggle, Daughter Marriage, Dontrelle Happy
I know we linked a Yankees story earlier today, but when they are getting swept it is just too good to pass up. The best part of the article below is that the author says “Teixeira needs to start hitting. His 0-4 dropped his average to .218 and he also mishandled a throw in the dirt from Berroa.” Maybe you can’t pay for a championship.
Seats Empty, Proposals, Changing Uniforms
People cannot be surprised that the expensive seats in the new stadiums around New York are not being sold very quickly. One of the seats costs as much as $2,600! Not all of them are that expensive, but still the prices of nonpremium seats were raised 76% this season at Yankee Stadium. Great planning, everyone has the money go to a game in April for hundreds of dollars right now.
On Our Mind: April 16, 2009
Scott says:
- Hello Yankee Stadium. I would like to introduce you to the Cleveland Indians. Oh wait, you’ve seen them. Wow, the team was 2-7. That was so nice of you to let them destroy you on the day you’re entire franchise, fanbase, and ESPN has been waiting for. Nice work! At least you made me happy.
- You know you are a very talented writer/blogger when you can be such a blatent homer like Bill Simmons and still be so popular. I usually love his posts so I am guilty as well, but it is rare that a guy can be on the front page of ESPN as an obvious fan/homer.
Blog Down, Yankees Winless, Presidential Phillies
The MLB is struggling on all sides with it’s online offerings. Now, word is coming in that they totally shut down their MLB.tv blog. Social media and baseball apparently don’t mix to well. Here’s to hoping the video player is working.
Payroll Issues, Power Rankings, Starving for a Pennant
When you look at the list of MLB payrolls for 2009, you’ll see that certain teams spend twice as much as a lot of other teams. It’s pretty crazy to see that only nine teams spend over $100 million and just one spends over $200 million. It doesn’t make sense to me why the league allows such a difference in this regard. Salary cap anyone?
