What’s up with Tiger?

tiger-woodsIt’s no secret that Tiger Woods’ return to golf after the injury was highly anticipated.  Afterall, he is the most famous athlete in the country.  I think most of us expected him to come back and win every tournament in which he played.  Sure, he’s looked good at times, but is still nowhere near the level of Tiger we’ve seen in the past.  We’re just not seeing the same old ultra-confident Woods.  What’s the hang up, TW? • NBA playoffs in full force, and I have to be the one to say, really? We’re just starting the second round! I knew this was drawn out, but now without a true cheering interest it finally is hitting me how drawn out it really is. Let’s make sure everyone gets at least two full days rest after most of the players play less than 30 minutes of basketball.tiger-woods-pga-tour-1

  • Tiger Woods is still struggling to get back.  He was right there going into the final round and couldn’t win.  I was rather disappointed because golf is just so boring without him making crazy shots and winning almost every tournament.  Watching a bunch of no-name guys battle it out really means nothing to me…and I’m even one of those huge golf fans.

  • Tiger is just five off the lead after an embarassing last hole.  Anyone want to bet against him?

  • Andrew Bynum is back, his team, the Lakers,  just took care of the 2 seed in the west. Anyone want to be against them? (They have to be a heavy, heavy favorite at least in the West)

  • Another shout out to the Masters…  Today was the par 3 tourney and there was some pretty solid golf played considering no one wants to win the thing because of the “jinx.”  At any rate, Gary Player, who announced this would be his last time coming to Augusta to take part in the Masters festivities, holed out from the tee box on the last hole of the round.  Usually this would be called a hole in one; however, he had already plunked a ball in the water making the one he holed out his third shot from the tee.  Either way you look at it, it’s a memorable way for one of golf’s greatest to go out.  I’m glad I saw it live.

  • Congratulations to the Columbus Blue Jackets for clinching a spot in the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. They’ve had a good year so far and have beaten some of the top teams in the league so who knows how far they can go. Even though nobody in Columbus probably realizes this has happened, I felt the need to tell the world because hey, if I don’t take care of my brothers, who will?

The Masters is Here!

masters

Here at LinkedOnSports.com we obviously focus on the four major sports, which often means sports like golf aren’t covered regularly.  So, when we can, we like to cover the major events going on outside of the four major sports.  This leads me to the Masters.  Since the Masters begins tomorrow, I figured I’d provide a quick rundown of players to watch.

Steve Stricker.  He qualifies as a sleeper for many reasons…mainly because he’s missed the cut in the past couple Masters and just missed the cut last week.  However, he’s having a great season and is top 10 in the PGA in scoring average and putting.  I think his putting might just put him in a good position to surprise everyone this weekend.

Rory McIlroy.  He is incredibly young but has been playing great golf this year.  He’s got power and a knack for hitting great shots.  This guy will be one of the most fun to watch this week.  If he lets the pressure pass him by and can go out and play his game, I like him to show up in the pack on the “moving day” that is Saturday afternoon.

Mike Weir.  He has won this tournament before and looks like he’s back on track with his entire game.  He plays a style of golf that doesn’t exactly match up with Augusta, but I guess that’s why he’s a sleeper.  If he can lead the pack in fairways hit this week I like his chances.  However, he’ll have to beat Tiger on Sunday…

Anthony Kim.  I just love this young American.  He’s got the fire and guts to win any tournament.  He will definitely have to drive the ball well to have a chance.  If he can bomb some drives and take advantage of the par 5s, he could build some momentum going into the weekend.

Boo Weekley.  This guy has all the confidence in the world and his laid back approach could put him in contention.  I don’t think he’ll feel the pressure of the stage because he really has nothing to lose.  Sure, there is a chance he could miss the cut altogether, but if he gets to the weekend, he could make a Saturday charge toward the top of the leaderboard.

With all these sleepers in the field and the other big name guys we all know, I think this Masters will be one of the best in recent history.  I think all the players are a little on edge, though, considering Tiger hasn’t won it since 2005.  Since I’m such a big fan of him, I can’t pick someone else to win this tournament.  All I can do is provide brief arguements why some guys could finish in the top 10…all of whom will be looking up at Tiger.
