Paulus: Luckiest Kid Ever

greg_paulus

Greg Paulus had a pretty solid career at Duke.  He was the starting poing guard for three years and led a top 10 team in the nation every single year.  He was also able to get a four year degree while doing so.  While this is enough good fortune for almost anyone, it doesn’t stop there.  Today, Paulus announced that he’ll be enrolling at Syracuse University for graduate school AND playing football this coming fall. Smart Move For Isiah Thomas To Go To FIU

thomas_article_largearticle_large

Welcome Isiah Thomas to Florida. FIU and Thomas will start their relationship, and it gets me to thinking how manymore chances will the guy have to coach? The ESPN article says it will be his second chance to revive his career. Well, he totally screwed up the Pacers. Next he went on to New York and made them a complete joke. It is not surprising that he has now gone to a lesser known college basketball program.

As a player, Thomas was amazing. It seeems like it would be tough for him to gain ultimate respect after the two debacles that have taken place in the NBA. From his perspective though, this is a great decision. Florida International was 13-20 last year, which was good for eighth in the Sun Belt Conference. There is no great pressure of continuing to build a strong program, or building a winner in a media-centric region. If Thomas goes in there and FIU finishes seventh and eighth the next two years, well, he will have gone into a weak program and come out of a weak program. But, if Thomas is able to take this team to the tournament in a few years, well, he will have been the savior of the school’s athletic program.

Time will tell if both parties made the right decision. The fact is that Isiah cannot hurt his reputation anymore than it already has been. Or can he?

  • Great showing for the Big Ten.  I’m happy the supposed best team in our conference decided not to show up to play Monday night.  Way to embarass yourselves and the conference, MSU.  You not only failed to get off your heels and make something happen, but you seemed intimidated from the opening tip.  How can that happen after you had just beat the defending champions and two number one seeds?  I think the Badgers would have had a better showing in this game than you did…Penn State and Michigan too.  And, I don’t want to hear any of this “Oh, at least we got there” stuff.  I’m not so sure you even got there with the poor display of EVERYTHING I saw.  Way to roll over like you’re playing the Lakers or something.  There isn’t a reason why a team gets blown out in the biggest game of the season; Izzo would agree.  I actually feel bad for him because he was the only Spartan with his head in the game.  It’s too bad the season ended like this for the viewers.  I’m certain UConn or Louisville would have at least made it a 40-minute game and not lost it by halftime.  I guess we’ll never know…

  • It is starting to hit me, now that the NCAA Tournament is over, that the playoffs are almost upon us. The NHL and NBA playoffs both start in the next two weeks, and it is my favorite time of the year. Like a said a few days ago, excuse me if I insist on posting about the NHL playoffs. There is no more exciting time in sports. That’s right, I am saying that it is more exciting than March Madness. As a first round weekend, the NCAA dominates it. After that, though, it isn’t always exciting as the championship game showed us. If you have a team in the NHL playoffs, be ready for non-stop action. Don’t turn away because you may miss the greatest sport out there play the most intense event in sports, NHL playoff overtime!

  • I hope Seth Davis has UConn and UNC heavily favored this week.  That means Purdue and/or Gonzaga will end up in the Elite 8, which is just fine by me.  Oh, and Arizona has no chance versus Louisville, right?  Just like the Badgers had no chance against FSU and VCU was for sure going to beat UCLA.  How’d those games turn out for you?  Just keep talkin, Seth…keep talkin.

  • The Wonderlic scores were released yesterday.  As many of you have seen, Matthew Stafford did a great job, and many of the top receivers did well also.  It is tough to take these scores too seriously, but the best example of them being important leads to Vince Young.  After that fiasco, all skeptics had to take a step back and realize there may be some validity to these tests.  If nothing else, we have to at least take notice.
