The Vikings’ season isn’t over…yet

fantasy_ap_kevin_pat_576

Since we’re all already starting to count the days until the NFL season, I figured I’d throw a quick shot out to being on the good side of the banned substances policy in the NFL.  There really isn’t a good side, but for Kevin and Pat Williams this is about as good as it gets.  Both Minnesota Vikings pro-bowlers benefited from a judge’s ruling today that will allow them to be safe from suspension until their case is settled.  Therefore, suspension-happy Roger Goodell can’t touch the Williams Wall…for now.  Either way, I’m pretty happy being the Vikings fan that I am.  With those two healthy and able to play in all 16, the Vikings win the division hands down.  However, I will play devil’s advocate for a sentence and say that this will probably end up biting us in the ass because the Wall will be suspended smack dab in the middle of the season…unless they are somehow able to win their suit.  If you can’t tell, it’s hard to be truly optimistic as a Vikings fan with our current QB situation.  Here are some links:

Eastern Conference Finals Preview

Magic Cavaliers BasketballGame one of the Western Conference Finals between LA and Denver was nothing short of a nail biter as the Lakers forced their way past a firing Nuggets squad.  As for the Eastern Conference Finals, I don’t think game one will be as close.  Cleveland has had so much time to rest and prepare for either Orlando or Boston that game one might just be a 20 point blowout.  Lebron is anxious to get back out there and prove his dominance yet again and show everyone why the Cavs are the favorites to win it all.  At any rate, the games still need to be played…so here is what Orlando needs to do in order to have any sort of hope to win this series. Western Conference Finals Preview

Nuggets Lakers BasketballThe Western Conference Finals begins tonight as the red-hot Denver Nuggest travel west to take on the somewhat uneasy Lakers.  After LA took seven games to dispose of Houston, many experts are picking the Nuggets to pull off the upset this round.  Personally, I think the Lakers’ flawless display of basketball at home versus Houston was good enough to show how much of a favorite they are.  Here’s a breakdown of what we have to look forward to in this series and a couple matchups that are key to determining the winner. Chucky Replaces Kornheiser in MNF Gang

jongrudenJon Gruden, Tampa Bay’s former coach, will join the Monday Night Football team this coming season.  He will replace one of my personal favorites Tony Kornheiser.  Kornheiser needed to step down due to his fear of flying considering the MNF schedule for this season would have forced him to the air.  At any rate, he will be missed, and Gruden will have some tough shoes to fill.  I think he’ll be a nice fit for the job. Controversial Corner: Lay Off Phelps!

040820_michaelphelps_vmed_3pwidecMichael Phelps is back after serving a three month suspension for what we have all seen pictures of. While probably none of us follow swimming regularly, it’s nice to have a superstar back in the water. I compare it to Tiger Woods coming back in a sense that the sport becomes some sort of relevant.  I think we all should just lay off Phelps about his bad decision and get on with cheering him on while he prepares for the next Olympics. The NBA Should Avoid Instant Replay

instantreplayMany professional and college sports are using instant replay review these days to help ensure the accuracy of officials.  Football, the NFL and NCAA, use instant replay through both the coaches challenge system and official reviews.  The USTA utilizes replay in many ATP and WTA tennis tournaments by giving the players chances to challenge calls.  Even the MLB is getting in on the action with using replay to call close homeruns.  Why shouldn’t the NBA use it to it’s fullest extent?  I’ll tell you. Paulus: Luckiest Kid Ever

greg_paulus

Greg Paulus had a pretty solid career at Duke.  He was the starting poing guard for three years and led a top 10 team in the nation every single year.  He was also able to get a four year degree while doing so.  While this is enough good fortune for almost anyone, it doesn’t stop there.  Today, Paulus announced that he’ll be enrolling at Syracuse University for graduate school AND playing football this coming fall. Alex the “Great” is gone, needs some work

jersey_rd1_pit_wasThis couldn’t make me happier.  I’m not even a big hockey fan (just an enormous sports fan in general obviously), and I’m exstatic that Alexander Ovechkin is out of the playoffs.  This guy bothers me in the same way Lebron James bothers me.  Both have been given a crown so early in their careers, and neither has done anything in the post season yet.  They are like the same guy in different sports…both tremendous individual players but can’t get it done when it counts.  Thus far, Ovechkin could actually learn a few things from Lebron. Magic Falling Apart

NBA/After being up 2-1 in the series and giving up a 14 point lead last night to lose, the Orlando Magic find themselves behind the 8-ball.  Now down 3-2, Orlando must scrape together some sort of confidence and game plan to stop the momentum the Celtics have built over the past two games.  Today, Dwight Howard openly criticized his team, and his coach, for the lack of a solid game plan in game five.  Howard actually has a good point. Mark Cuban vs. Mrs. Martin; Big Baby vs. A kid

markcuban1Strange incidents in the NBA Playoffs are becoming the norm as of late, which is why it should come as no surprise that there have been occurrences where fans are involved in the game in a way they shouldn’t be.  Of course, I’m referring to the verbal shot Mark Cuban took at a fan, Kenyon Martin’s mom, and the case of Glen Davis ‘bumping’ into a kid sitting courtside.  What would happen if these foes sqauared off in a 12-round battle?  Here are the matchups: Read more

Would Favre even be a good fit?

mp_main_half_favrevikingsicover212With all of the excitement surrounding the possible return of Brett Favre, I’ve lost sight of what it might be like for the rest of the team if Favre did end up on the Vikings.  It never occurred to me that the team dynamic could suddenly change for the worse and actually have the opposite affect of what I claimed last week.  While I still hope Favre goes to Minneosta, I will play devil’s advocate and hypothesize what it might be like for Favre’s new teammates in MN. What’s up with Tiger?

tiger-woodsIt’s no secret that Tiger Woods’ return to golf after the injury was highly anticipated.  Afterall, he is the most famous athlete in the country.  I think most of us expected him to come back and win every tournament in which he played.  Sure, he’s looked good at times, but is still nowhere near the level of Tiger we’ve seen in the past.  We’re just not seeing the same old ultra-confident Woods.  What’s the hang up, TW?
